With the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare around the corner, I thought I’d share an odd tidbit about Call of Duty 4, which comes with Infinite Warfare. There’s a weird glitch in COD 4 that, as far as I know, nobody has uncovered. Actually, I’m not sure “glitch” is the right word. It’s more of a logical inconsistency.
During the mission “All Ghillied Up,” where you (as Captain Price) tag along with Captain MacMillan in the Ukraine to assassinate Zakhaev, you first sneak past a house, then through an abandoned church. After that, you walk into a field and hear what MacMillan recognizes as tank engines. Before the enemy has a chance to spot you, he orders you to get down. A big group of soldiers accompanied by some tanks come rolling over a hill.
“There’s too many of them. Let them go,” MacMillan says. Just for fun, I’ve ignored his orders and fired at the soldiers. I once took out 7 or 8 of them before MacMillan croaked. I bet some players could kill them all if it the game allowed it.
Now here’s the weird part: if you disobey MacMillan’s orders and engage the soldiers, MacMillan takes cover behind a tree. If he gets hit once, he dies and the game is over. However, if you wait until the soldiers advance past you, then move to the top of the hill and shoot them, they’ll come after you.
But this time, Captain MacMillan doesn’t die after getting shot once. In fact, he doesn’t die at all – he’s suddenly invincible! I once watched all of the soldiers surround him and shoot him hundreds of times. MacMillan would fall down, get to his feet and kill each one individually by butting them with his rifle stock.
It will be interesting to see if the remastered version of COD 4 features the indestructible Captain MacMillan.
